- 2 1/2 cups water.
- 2 tsp chicken soup base or 2 cups chicken broth.
- 1 medium onion.
- 4 garlic cloves minced.
- 5 slices bacon, cut small.
- 1 cup shredded carrots.
- 2 bay leaves.
- 1 tsp ground mustard.
- 1/2 tsp dried rosemary.
- 1 tsp dried parsley.
- 1/4 tsp black pepper or more to taste.
- Pinch salt.

- Rinse beans in colander. Sorting out any discolored beans..
- Ina large pot over high heat bring water and chicken base or broth to a boil. Add the beans, onion, garlic and bacon and bring to boil for 10 minutes..
